Arequipa Cooking Classes

Tie on an apron in Peru's food capital: cook causa rellena, lomo saltado or ceviche with an expert local chef, then toast with a pisco sour you made yourself.

The experience

Cook Peru with your own hands

In Arequipa, food isn't a side note, it's the whole story. This is the gastronomy capital of South America, a city that has spent centuries perfecting its recipes. And the best way to understand a food city isn't to read about it, or even just to eat in it. It's to cook in it.

In this hands-on class you'll spend around two and a half hours cooking, and then eating, some of Peru's most loved dishes, guided by an expert Peruvian chef in a beautiful spot with a stunning view over the city. You chop, you season, you taste, you toast. And at the end you sit down to the best kind of table: the one you set yourself.

Hands-on, aprons on

Why you'll love this

A delicious Peruvian meal

Everything you prepare ends up on the table: you cook it, then you feast on it, pisco sour in hand.

Learn from a local chef

An expert Peruvian chef guides every step, sharing the small tricks that make these dishes sing.

Truly hands-on

No demos to watch from a distance. You do the cooking, in the gastronomy capital of South America.

A view to cook for

The class takes place in a beautiful location with a stunning view over the White City.

Roll up your sleeves

What you'll experience

Your class starts with an apron and a workstation of your own. First up: causa rellena, Peru's beloved layered appetizer. Silky golden potato brightened with lime and ají amarillo, wrapped around a savory filling. It looks like restaurant food, and soon yours will look the part too.

Then comes the main event. Depending on the day, you'll master either lomo saltado, Peru's iconic sizzling stir-fry born in the country's Chinese-Peruvian kitchens, or ceviche, the fresh, citrusy national dish the whole world envies. And because no Peruvian celebration is complete without it, you'll also shake up a classic pisco sour to toast your work.

Through it all, an expert Peruvian chef is at your side, demonstrating, correcting and encouraging, while the White City spreads out below. Around two and a half hours later, you'll sit down to the meal you made and understand exactly why this city is called the gastronomy capital of South America.
