About us

We live here. That changes everything.

Huallata is a local travel experiences brand born in Arequipa, Peru, not a traditional agency. We share the Peru we actually live in: the markets we shop at, the kitchens we cook in, the mountains we grew up looking at, and the people we call neighbors.

Our way of traveling

Peru, beyond the typical route

Most visitors see Peru through a bus window, on a schedule written far away. We'd rather walk you into the picantería where the cook knows our order, point out the corner where the best queso helado is sold, and sit down with you at tables where Spanish, Quechua and laughter all mix together.

That's the difference local knowledge makes. We don't sell products off a shelf. We share places and people we genuinely love, in small groups, at a human pace, with room for the unplanned moments that become your favorite stories.

Why "Huallata"?

Named after a bird of the high Andes

The huallata is the Andean goose, a white-and-black bird that lives by the lagoons and high wetlands of the altiplano, thousands of meters above the sea. You'll usually spot huallatas in pairs, calm and completely at home in one of the wildest landscapes on Earth. That's the spirit we named ourselves after: loyal company, high places, and feeling at home where others only pass through.

More than sightseeing

Travel as a two-way exchange

For us, a great experience is a conversation, not a performance. You learn how a picantería kitchen really works; the cook hears what breakfast looks like in your country. You help spread fresh-cut alfalfa on a Taquile terrace; a family shares their lake, their textiles and their evening with you.

Culture, gastronomy, nature and community aren't four separate menus here. They're woven together, the way they are in real Andean life. We design every experience so that both sides walk away richer, and the communities that host us are respected, heard and fairly part of it all.

The humans

Who you'll actually meet

Behind Huallata there are real arequipeños with names, favorite dishes and strong opinions about where to watch the sunset. We'd love to introduce ourselves properly: faces, stories and all.

Meet us before you even book. The best introduction is a conversation, not a bio on a website. Say hello on WhatsApp and we'll tell you who we are and what we love showing travelers in Arequipa.
